What do you want application readers to learn about you?

As you’re writing your essays and extra curricular activities, asking for recommendations, and finalizing your portfolios, reels and auditions, think about what you want the admissions committee to learn about you.  They will see your courses and grades but it’s up to you to complete the rest of the picture. Holistic admissions takes a 360 degree review of your application, and even the largest schools do a personal review of each piece of information you submit.

Consider what you want them to know, in the limited space you have to tell them.

  • What are your passions?

  • What is your moral character?

  • What are your intellectual curiosities?

  • What are your creative capabilities?

  • What are your aspirations?

  • How do you interact with others?

Remember, when you can, tell with examples. You are telling them your story and you can narrate that story to highlight what you want readers to learn. Let them see your personality, they are accepting the whole student, not just your academics and activities. Take a few minutes to make a list of what you want admissions to learn about you, and then make sure that you’re letting them learn this as they read about you.
