Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)

L’s high school years began with some health challenges that strongly suggested that a nearby college setting might be best for him, but he was determined to consider schools further from home. We recommended he try a short pre-college summer program at SCAD after junior year to see if he was emotionally ready to both pursue his art and live away from home. That summer turned out to be a life-changing experience and because of it “L” was determined to return to SCAD for college. He became an unrelenting self-advocate and learned that taking online classes his senior year, together with credits earned during high school, would allow him to matriculate at SCAD as a sophomore, greatly pleasing his parents as this reduced college costs by a year.

Working with L was rewarding as he started as a student that was fidgety and unfocused when we first met, and with a bit of gentle coaching became one of the most driven and self-motivated students we’ve worked with.
